The Director, Portfolio Management Public Sector will be responsible for driving the global solution offering strategy and directing all out take to the organization activities for the Public Sector vertical globally. Our candidate would possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. The incumbent will partner with Product Management, Global Product Marketing, Services, Legal, Finance and Marketing groups deliver new products and services to market in a manner that maximizes revenue through every channel, segment, and region. He/she must enjoy spending time in the market to understand their problems, and find innovative solutions for the broader market. He/she must be able to communicate with all areas of the company.

Reports to Vice President, Product Portfolio Management

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with stakeholders to create a product strategy for Public Sector globally. Prioritize opportunities and provide input into backlog planning.

  • Oversee and coordinate all new solution offerings for Public Sector.

  • Provide guidance on individual solution strategies while ensuring alignment with overall plan.

  • Work closely with Product Marketing, Distribution, and Services leadership globally to ensure alignment on strategy, requirements, and deliverables.

  • Provide vision and leadership for Public Sector organizationally communicating priorities, accomplishments, and challenges cross functionally.

  • Serve as the internal and external evangelist for your product offering.

  • Responsible for creating business cases for major features and new products for Public Sector.

  • Manage Voice of the Customer focus groups.

  • Work with the Business on retiring an old technology and move the customers to a new, digital world.

  • Act as primary customer facing engagement resource for Public Sector.

  • Be aware of, and comply with, all corporate policies. Qualifications:

  • 10 years in Marketing, Product Management, Product Marketing roles – experience in Business Development, Sales or Strategic Planning a plus

  • Deep process knowledge of typical Public Sector process (e.g. Funds and Grants Management)

  • 7 years Management experience

  • Knowledgeable in SaaS is a requirement

  • BS required, MBA preferred

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Ability to pass a background check Job Specific Specialized Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills – able to motivate and drive other organizations without direct authority over those organizations

  • Extremely resourceful – leveraging all resources both internal and externally to drive business performance

  • Extremely strong project/program management skills

  • Experience developing strategic business plans, pro forma financials

  • Able to recognize and drive all the cross-functional activities necessary to support the Public Sector offerings – e.g. client on-boarding and client support in a joint effort with other organizations within SAP.

  • Strong experience and knowledge in the Public Sector processes.

  • Experience in developing relationships with other business units within and outside of SAP Concur.

  • Able to recognize and drive all the cross-functional activities necessary to support new offerings – e.g. client on-boarding, client support, billing, contracts

  • Strong experience and knowledge in the activities required to ensure a successful service launches – e.g. field tools/training and market launch activities (promotions, PR, analyst briefings, lead client spokespeople, etc.)

  • Experience in developing relationships with field personnel both capture field needs relative to selling new offerings and motivating the field organizations (direct and indirect)

  • Able to identify risks in business performance and segment specific initiatives, define mitigation strategies/contingency plans, arbitrate collaboration and comprise amongst the various cross-functional teams and effectively escalate critical risks & recommendations to Executive Leadership

  • Ability to work effectively in matrix organizations collaborating with both Marketers and Product teams to bring new offerings to market

  • Independent and strategic thinker requiring minimal supervision for decision-making and resolution of business performance obstacles and conflicts

  • SaaS industry experience and global business experience required
