The SAP Innovation Center Network is a development unit within SAP, combining the excellence of software engineering with the spirit of entrepreneurship. Across various focus areas, we pioneer game-changing solutions in close collaboration with startups, customers & partners in industry, and research as well as other SAP units. By exploring unconventional ideas and developing inspiring proofs of concepts, we push state-of-the-art Computer Science topics, and it’s applied and related fields, to provide SAP with foresight into future trends.


In addition to the ICN focus topics of “pioneering new markets and future business trends,” we extend our investment in the area of “emerging and disruptive technologies”. We are in the process of establishing even stronger ties to academia and external research to reinforce our outside-in perspective. You will be part of a unit within the ICN which serves as the driving force for transformative technology innovation- using a structured approach to accelerate and streamline the early stages of our Innovation Engine (Exploration, Ideation, Validation).

  • Your responsibilities will include providing technical leadership in

  • Scouting and identifying new technologies and research topics from different universities

  • Assessing, evaluating, and demonstrating the feasibility of identified technologies and research topics for their potential relevance to SAP businesses

  • Accountability, Drive for excellence and Timely delivery of the assigned tasks are expected.

  • Close collaboration with other SAP locations and academia requires a willingness to travel.


  • Outstanding university (preferably US-top-10 or equivalent) degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or Physics; ideally at the PhD level (but not limited to).

  • Hands-on experience in projects featuring transfer of disruptive technology to business-cases.

  • Professional experience in technology companies in technology development and/or technology assessment and evaluation, including trend-scouting.

  • Experience of collaborative research projects with partners in academia and industry.

  • 5 years of professional experience in the absence of a Ph.D., in the technical areas listed below.

  • Excellent demonstrable technical background in at least four of the following technical areas (refereed publications are a plus)

  • High-performance Computing

  • Computer Architecture

  • Domain Specific Machine Architectures

  • High-performance reconfigurable computing, FPGAs

  • Data-center Architecture and operation

  • Programming languages

  • Cloud-native application development with exposure to architecture design

  • Data-science

  • Machine-learning and Artificial Intelligence

  • Cryptography

  • Optimization.

  • Experience in C-level presentations a plus

  • Strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving ability.

  • Innovative thinker with ability to handle complexity.

  • Willingness and capacity to expand leadership and technical skills
