PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The SAP HANA product organization with 1000 highly motivated employees design and produce SAP’s cutting edge database products including SAP HANA. A key area of the SAP HANA platform is to provide capabilities for predictive analytics and machine learning. Already today, the platform provides about 100 machine learning algorithms out-of-the-box and integrates with leading predictive and machine learning servers like R Server and Google TensorFlow.
You will lead a talented development team in Shanghai collaborating in a distributed setup with colleagues in USA and Germany and you will work closely with other parts of the HANA development organization as well as other SAP teams related to machine learning. The development team is responsible to provide a high-performance and modern machine learning framework as part of the SAP HANA platform and to deliver an excellent product quality and product experience which fosters customer adoption.

EXPECTATIONS AND TASKS
You are responsible for the product success of machine learning within the SAP HANA platform and to establish a high-performing engineering team in Shanghai.
As a manager of the Shanghai HANA Machine Learning team you manage the development team, and contribute to the HANA product roadmap as well as the strategy for machine learning in close collaboration with product management, align stakeholder requirements from customers, partners and SAP-internal applications and represent SAP HANA machine learning to senior management.
You are responsible for supporting the success of your direct reports within the larger team by helping them to identify development opportunities and supporting the team members to achieve their goals. You are responsible for building a high performing team concerning engineering and social aspects. This includes hiring the best people from within and outside the company, fostering motivation and integration of employees as well as team learning and development.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
Successful working experience in building and leading a software engineering teams of 3 years
Excellent software engineering and architecture skills
Database – in specific SAP HANA – and machine learning knowledge
Excellent knowledge of SAP-internal and external technologies
Proven knowledge of agile software engineering principles
Customer orientation with a strong focus on innovation
Demonstrated ability to gain understanding of new subject areas quickly
Good people and conflict management skills
Ability to work and communicate in an international intracompany network
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
University degree (Bachelor or Master) in computer science, physics, mathematics, or comparable
Strong team player
Extensive project management skills cross teams and geographical boundaries
Willingness to continuously learn
Technical understanding of today’s on-premise and cloud environments is a clear advantage
Knowledge of SAP environment and SAP development processes is an advantage
Missing skills can be obtained on-the-job.
